Life is Good Because God is Good
Life is something that we as human beings should not take for granted because we don't know what is in store for our future. I have overcome many adversities in my 28 years of living. When I was 14 years old, I had knee cancer in my right leg called Osteosarcoma, and I missed my freshman year of high school because I had to undergo chemotherapy. After a year of chemotherapy, I got a knee replacement. I also had about a year of physical therapy, and I was able to go back to high school my sophomore year and made the Junior Varsity basketball team. When I turned 17 years old, the same cancer came back in my right leg and I missed most of my senior year of high school because I had to undergo chemotherapy again. There was nothing else the doctor could do for me, so they had to amputate my right leg. Now I am a hip-amputee but have a prosthetic leg to get around. Through my high school years of 1999-2003, Nas' triple threat of albums Stillmatic (My favorite album of all time), The Lost Tapes and God's Son helped me get through this dark period in my life.
After two years of chemo and physical therapy, I attended the local junior college and graduated with an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. I then transferred to Cal State University, Long Beach and graduated May 2012 with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism and a Minor in Africana Studies. 10 months after graduating, I landed a job as an Associate Investigator with USIS.
Life could be difficult at times, but we always have to find ways to get through them. These are the moments that define who we are, and force us to find inner strength that we never knew existed to overcome adversity.
I've been blessed with a great family, friends, and a job straight out of college. Although I seem to always struggle at times. I could honesty say that my Life is Good.
